Signed from Accies after an unfruitful spell with the SFL side, Downsy is one of two players in our current squad to have played with bitter rivals Pollok.  He came to Dunterlie with a proven goalscoring record at junior level, having netted against us on more than one occasion in the black and white, although perhaps with slightly dented confidence.  Since then his partnership with Bonner McKenzie has been one of the most successful front lines at Dunterlie in recent years, with Downs' touch and ability to shield and hold the ball providing the perfect foil for the goalscoring instincts of McKenzie.  Added to this, his instinct for scoring spectacular goals at crucial times (just look back to his hat trick against Troon when we were 3-1 down at home: one left foot, one right and a header to keep our league hopes on track) has made Robert one of the most popular players in the squad
